Introducing Jovia Musimenta... our second story of hope

Profile: Jovia Musimenta
Jovia is the second young lady being supported through our Be My Mordecai Initiative. She is someone who—despite numerous personal and financial challenges—has shown resilence and remarkable determination.
🌿 Background & Family
Jovia Musimenta, a 23‑year‑old Ugandan young lady is from a large polygamous family. However, she is the firstborn of three children on her mother’s side. Among the three children, one passed away, leaving Jovia and one surviving sibling. Her mother, who worked as a midwife for the government, is also deceased.
Jovia currently lives with her aunt, who became her guardian after her mother’s passing.
She knows very little about her father who, though alive, has hardly been present in her life. Jovia recognizes the role a father plays in a girl’s life and so, is currently attempting to build that father-daughter relationship. However, her father’s absence has shaped much of her journey and strengthened her resolve to create a stable and hopeful future for herself and her son.
Yes, Jovia is a single mother to a three‑year‑old son, whom she had at the age of 19, and has experienced the challenges a young, single mother often has to face in raising a young child while trying to pursue her goals.
🎓 Educational Background
Jovia’s educational journey reflects persistence and a deep desire to learn. She completed her primary Education (UPE) up to P7, and passed her Primary Leaving Examination (PLE). She proceeded to complete her secondary level up to Senior 4 (O-Levels), and successfully obtained the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE). Although she did not proceed to UACE, Jovia attended Technical College and earned a BTVET Certificate.
Her studies were interrupted when she became pregnant at 18. With the loss of educational support as a result of the pregnancy, she was unable to continue funding her schooling. Even so, her desire to learn has never dimmed, and her passion for education remains strong.
🎥 Work Experience

Jovia currently works as a camera operator at Worship TV and has also served in the same role at the KCCA Youth Hub. These opportunities have given her hands‑on experience in media production and strengthened her interest in pursuing journalism professionally.
Jovia’s story is one of resilience and hope. As a young woman and mother navigating life without the necessary parental support, she has continued to push forward with determination.
In her own words:
I am a single mother of a 3‑year‑old and have often found myself in situations where I have had to single-handedly support my child. I got pregnant when I was 18 years old and, understandably disappointed, my sponsors who were supporting me with my education at the time were not willing to push me further. Regardless of the pregnancy and having to raise a 3‑year‑old as a single mother, I have always been, and I am still, very passionate about schooling and would like to continue if given a chance.
My father has hardly been in my life, so I promised myself to give the best to myself and my son. If given a chance to continue with school, I know my life will be a testimony and an inspiration to someone in the same situation someday.”
🌟 Jovia’s Dreams & Aspirations

For Jovia, journalism is more than a profession — it is a calling shaped by her own lived experience. She hopes to become one of Uganda’s leading investigative journalists, using both her skills and her personal story to inspire teenage mothers who may feel discouraged or overlooked.

She believes her journey carries a message of possibility, and she wants her life to stand as evidence that young mothers can rise, rebuild, and thrive. Beyond her own story, she envisions using her platform to spotlight the experiences of thousands of mothers and women, sharing their stories through the lens of healing, motivation, and global visibility.
🎓 Support Needed
Jovia is now pursuing a two‑year course in Journalism and Mass Communication at UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Bukesa, Uganda. Believing that her journey carries a message of possibility, MBTW believes she would benefit from financial sponsorship to support her tuition.
